Catera Field Spaniels

About Us

kristyandkids.jpg

Catera Field Spaniels began in 1993 when Mallorie came into my life. She was everything I had dreamed of and more. Many people ask me why I chose a Field Spaniel, since I had never seen one in person before I had the fortune of getting Mallorie. I wanted a breed that I could show in conformation and obedience easily. I saw a photo of a Field Spaniel in a dog breed book and fell in love. I began my research on Field Spaniels in 1991 writing to many different breeders trying to locate a puppy within a couple of years. I was in no hurry which was a good thing because there were very few litters of Field Spaniels at that time. I finally wrote to Mal’s breeder and she informed me that she had a litter of puppies coming.  I was so lucky to get Mallorie- she was the first Field Spaniel I touched. She was the foundation of Catera Field Spaniels. She was otherwise known as Ch Calico’s Stuck with You CDX OA NAJ and I owe so many thanks to Becki Jo Hirschy for having faith in a teenage girl and entrusting me with one of her dogs. My life has been pretty much devoted to the care and training of my dogs.

I have been an active member of Huntsville Obedience Training Club in Huntsville, Alabama since 1986 where I have served on the board of directors since 1994. I teach obedience classes and enjoy helping at all of the performance events the club participates in. I feel so fortunate to have found my friends in the “dog world”. Actually they are really more like family to me than anything else. They have definitely helped me through so many difficult times and I have done the same for them.

About The Name "Catera"

The name Catera was chosen as my kennel name mainly because I liked the way the word sounded and I wanted something that was relatively short. Catera was a type of Cadillac and the advertisements at the time were very catchy. They called the Catera the Cadillac that “zigs” and I did think that would be fitting for Field Spaniels.

Thanks for taking time to look at my web site. All the thanks for that go to my adopted sister- Karen Balinski.
